Opal® apples part of Hollywood’s biggest night

Opal® were ready for their close-up on Hollywood’s biggest night. The distinctive yellow apples with a sweet, tangy crunch and natural non-browning superpower are a part of this year’s “Everyone Wins” Nominee Gift Bags, given to Oscar® nominees in the major acting and directing categories. But as fans of the non-browning and Non-GMO apple know, you don’t have to be an award winner to bring home this particular prize – Opal apples are available throughout June.

How are Opal apples able to steal the spotlight? “Their star power is the way they won’t brown after cutting,” said Chuck Zeutenhorst, general manager of FirstFruits Marketing, the exclusive North American distributor of Opal apples. “Opal apples possess a naturally slow oxidation rate, so these Washington State-grown non-GMO apples won’t brown after slicing. That makes them a perfect lunch snack and a superior choice for salads and party plates calling for pre-sliced apples.”

Every year, the “Everyone Wins” Nominee Gift Bags get plenty of buzz in the media because of their mix of quirky and indulgent items. This year’s recipients will enjoy a sample box of Opal apples and a gift certificate they can redeem for an annual supply of Opals delivered monthly while they’re in season.

Available in both conventional and organic varieties, Opals are known for their distinctive crunch, sweet yet tangy flavor and natural resistance to oxidation – making them the perfect apple for snacking, lunchboxes and fresh spring recipes.
