"We are convinced that there is enormous potential in the online food trade - especially when the end-customers can receive their goods quickly and comfortably" explains Andreas Reß, Managing Director of Sales at DPD Germany. "I am delighted that we are now able to offer food shoppers a high-quality industry solution that meets the demands of company's such as HelloFresh". Nils Herrmann, Vice President of Operations at Hello Fresh elaborates, "it is extremely important that delivery is fast and reliable. We also need a partner that offers a similar level of flexibility and service as we do. Our test runs have shown that features such as the hourly delivery forecast and card-based tracking ensure a very high delivery rate - covering all our customers in Germany".
HelloFresh sends the cooled boxes to DPD a day before the customer's desired delivery date. From there, they are delivered the next day by express delivery at the exact time requested. Temperature-controlled transport is not necessary thanks to the innovative cooling technology of the packages. With DPD's Predict Service, the recipient will receive a text message and/or email with the exact hour when the courier will ring their doorbell. With card-based live tracking, the delivery can also be tracked in a map display. If DPD does not find the customer at home, the meal box is dealt with according to the customer's wishes. Many customers at HelloFresh have indicated a safe storage location (for example, their garage). If the meal box does not reach the customer in good time, DPD donates the package to a charity that checks the condition of the goods and distributes good quality food to those who need it.
Strong growth predicted for the online food trade
According to GfK data, 48.5 percent of all spending money flows into the food trade. In Germany, however, only about one percent of this is generated online. This is to change however, as the online turnover is expected to grow significantly from EUR 1.1 billion in 2014 to a yearly figure of EUR 7 billion. The share of the "food and drugstore" sector in total online trading revenues is expected to double from 8 to 16 percent over the same period. According to a study by the digital assosciation Bitkom, 28 percent of all online shoppers in Germany have already ordered food online today.
