The Peruvian strawberry exporting sector did not achieve any growth in 2016. According to information supplied by the Agro Data portal, overseas shipments last year reached 7,663,472 kilos with an FOB value of US $ 13,195,563. This shows a clear downward trend when compared with the 10,853,220 kilos shipped in 2015, worth US $ 19,084,367.
The United States stood out as the largest recipient of this Peruvian product, with purchases worth US $ 4,942,000. Next in the ranking are Canada (US $ 4,266,000), Japan (US $ 1,117,000), Puerto Rico (US $ 713,000) and Brazil (US $ 620.000).
When looking at the results of exporting companies, the most important one was Agroworld SAC, which accounted for 32% of all shipments in 2016. Also relevant were Frozen Foods SAC (26%), Agropackers SAC (14%), Del Ande Alimentos SAC (12%), Mebol SAC (12%) and Agro Export Ica SAC (2%), as well as other smaller ones totalling 4%.
During 2016, the average price of strawberries for export was US $ 1.72 per kilo.
