Italy: A year to forget for Angeleno plums

This year, Angeleno plums weren't as successful as in the past. Many are not willing to comment but Mauro Battistini, Director of Orogel Fresco, reported that "we are very disappointed because we had different expectations."

"Quantities were above the average of the past three years, 30% more than 2015. Unfortunately, countries overseas (the US in particular) never responded, so a lot of the produce remained in Europe."

Quality was good, but things did not pick up. " I think it just happened, it had nothing to do with how the campaign was structured. Other years with similar volumes went well."

Maybe action should be taken (thinning) to reduce the number of fruits and increase grades. "I can confirm the larger grades did better than the medium-small ones. Grades make the difference for almost all varieties."
