"Our main watermelon variety is 8424, also known as Zaoji. It's crisp, with a high water content, high sweetness and a sugar content as high as 14.4 degrees. They are available from May 1st to the end of September. The market price doubled in the previous quarter and production increased by about 15%," said Mr.Tian from the Xia Le agricultural science and Technology Service Co Ltd.
Industrial policy support helping farmers to open the market
"The increase in production was mainly due to government support. Afterwards, the Department of agriculture invested to help developing companies and farmers to participate in various exhibitions to broaden sales channels. With the sales growing, our melons could be picked at the right time, which helps to improve the quality of the product and the market prices almost doubled".
