"Chile: "Up to 15% more apples this year"

Chilean apple producers are getting ready for the campaign, two weeks before the start of the harvest. Chilean exporters have stated that there could be a 10 to 15% growth. Initially, producers thought that climate change might affect the production in 2017. Fortunately, it didn't have great consequences and it didn't affect the plantations nor the pre-harvest.

"We think this will be a very good season and, according to some importers, there will be a very good demand. Our main concern right now is that there is a lot of fruit in the United States, more than in other campaigns. That will hamper our entry into this and other markets, as they also ship their fruit to markets where we send our fruit," the producers stated.

According to the sector, the US presidential change will have no negative side effects for the commercialization of Chilean fruit. "We do not believe that the Trump factor will have any direct effect, except in the exchange rate. We believe that the dollar will be strengthened and that we will have better returns. If this happens and we have the campaign we are planning, we have nothing to worry about this year," said a Chilean exporter.
