Spain: Murcian grapes aim to reach China
The president of the regional government, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, met this Wednesday in the Palacio de San Esteban with the president of the Association of Producers and Exporters of the Region (Apoexpa), Joaquín Gómez, who told him about next year's plan to introduce the region's table grapes in the Chinese market.
The Region of Murcia leads the national production of table grapes, with 95% of Spain's total. Since last August, when China opened its market to Spanish products, the Region of Murcia has exported a total of 100 tonnes of stonefruit, and next year they have plans to introduce other products in this market.
The regional government and Apoexpa also agreed to permanently monitor and follow up the sector's needs as regards community legislation, transport, phytosanitary measures or the opening of new markets to directly address and manage such issues with the Ministry, according to sources of the Regional government in a statement.
In this meeting, which was also attended by members of the board of directors of Apoexpa, a balance of the latest stonefruit and grape campaigns was also made. Overall, the results have been positive in various aspects, according to Joaquín Gómez, and the prospects for 2017 are also good.
Another point addressed at the meeting was that of agricultural insurances. The regional government continues to show its commitment to help the producers, with a budget of 1 million Euro that will contribute to increase the number of policies signed in the Autonomous Region.
Apoexpa belongs to the Federation of Associations of Producers and Exporters of Fruits and Other Agricultural Products, Fepex, where it chairs the Table Grape Commission. It exports mainly stonefruit, including apricots, peaches, nectarines or plums, as well as table grapes. At present, it has 30 associated companies.
