West Australia using origin stickers to combat eastern imports of stone fruit

In West Australia a majority of stone fruits this season are going to have a sticker showing their State of origin. The plan is to help defend the local industry by allowing locals to support locally grown fruit instead.

Stone fruit grower and Western Australian Stone Fruit committee member, Bruno Del Simone, said while expensive, he hoped individual labels would be worth it. The industry has been seriously impacted in recent years by fruit imported from Eastern Australia. He also noted that locally grown should win out because it is fresher and should taste better.
