His family followed the races from the Netherlands. Dorian conscientiously chose to leave his family at home, according to Marc. “Dorian thought it too dangerous to have his family in Rio, we would not be able to see the races properly, and there is hardly any organic food. 'If something were to happen, it would make me surf badly,' said Dorian. So we didn’t want to take that risk. We have had daily contact for the past eight years, so it does not really matter that we have to watch the races from home.”
“Surprise visit brother was a real tearjerker”
Just as in London, Dorian was already sure of the gold medal before the medal race, after his race last Friday. He won the medal race on the 14th of August. King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima, and the three Dutch princesses all followed the race closely. After the medal race, the Olympic champion went on board the royal yacht. They personally congratulated him with the victory. This moment led to some confusion with a CBS commentator, however. “Dorian was married to Queen Maxima, according to CBS.” There was another special moment last Saturday: “The day before last, Adriaan, eldest brother of Dorian, travelled to Rio as a surprise. After seeing the film made by his family and friends, Adriaan showed up. That was a real tearjerker.”
Marc says that the complete sailing team has been eating organic food for the past eight years. “We discussed this with the Water Sports Association. We told them that if they want Dorian to participate, he would have to eat organic food. The cooks at the Olympics in London and Rio eventually got the request to cook organic food. We are very happy that Ekoplaza is sponsoring Dorian. I think both parties are happy with this. Dorian really shows that he has what it takes. We have a celebration here in a few days and then we can finally touch him again.”

Marc says that the organicpotatoes are doing very well. “From 44 countries producers are asking for help withthe production on briny soil, including 55,000 growers from Bangladesh.Normally we are not confronted with such things. This is a very interesting lifechallenge we have been given. This is going in the right direction.”
