While table grapes from Greece are now only delivered as winter pack products, Italy will still take two to three weeks before they begin with winter pack products, as explained by wholesale trader Rainfried Ernst of Mario Andretta & Co. Fruchthandelsgesellschaft mbH on the Munich wholesale market. “The table grapes from Italian production all come from cultivation on open land. Occasionally tunnel products are also available, but not yet in the classic winter pack,” the professional explains.

Because of the colder weather, demand was a bit restrained this week, the expert describes, and he explains: “Last week, demand was better here on the wholesale market.” But altogether, the wholesale trader emphasizes, the table grape trade has recovered after the completion of the summer fruit season. “The price and demand for seedless products from Italy went up noticeably lately. Especially blue products from Italy are in high demand.”
Pressure with the specie “Regina”
The wholesale trader from Munich explains that there is currently pressure on the Italian specie “Regina”. "We have too many table grapes of the brand Regina on the market, and are forced to sell the grapes for under a Euro" says Rainfried Ernst. "At most, we get 1.10 to 1.15 Euro. But when the pressure is too high altogether, we could be forced to sell for 80 cents per kilo."
Good prices for blue products and "Italia"
The blue products from Italy are doing better. "The blue products are currently scarce, prices are good over there - over here we are at 1.30 to 1.40 Euro per kilo", the professional explains. "On "Italia" grapes we have put a price of 1.20 to 1.30 Euro."
