'Fruit quest' to find UK's organic growers
Yeo Valley, based near the Mendip Hills, prefers to support other British family farms but has been forced to source many fruits from overseas.
"It's been an ongoing source of frustration that we haven't been able to find British organic fruit," admitted Rusga. "We've been putting the feelers out for the past two or three years but recently, we reached an impasse."
The company has now launched the fruit quest in earnest, and is calling on farmers growing up to one tonne of organic fruit to come forward. "If members of the public know a grower, please let us know," said Rusga.
The fruits will be incorporated into new and limited edition recipes. “We want to give consumers something new and a great way to innovate is through exciting fruit," he said.
Yeo Valley is attempting to fight back against the rise in imported products and support local farms, the company claims.
