Organic products buck trend of declining grocery sales latest Nielsen figures show

The figures from market analyst Nielsen showed organic sales reaching more than £100 million for the period.

For the year to 11 October 2014, the organic market grew by 1.6 per cent, contrasting with a decline of 0.6 per cent in the non-organic market, it found.

Finn Cottle, trade consultant at the Soil Association, said: "Campaigns like Organic September, alongside recent positive publicity and a renewed emphasis on innovation and new listings, are all helping to bolster performance against the backdrop of a deflated non-organic sector.

"New products and wider accessibility to organic will continue to help secure growth in this market."
