Fiji denies local ginger contains dangerous parasite

The head of Fiji's Agriculture department has rejected claims by Australian ginger growers that his country's ginger is infested with a dangerous parasite.

Ropate Ligiari, Fiji's permanent secretary of Agriculture, says he's concerned at the claims that Fiji ginger may contain a type of roundworm called the burrowing nematode.

Australia has just allowed Fijian ginger to enter the market, and a major ginger importer has suggested that local growers don't want competition from overseas that might drive the price down
