Date harvest starts in Iran with a healthy 2014 crop

Aban Arya, a packer and exporter located in Iran have announced that the date harvest in the Kerman and Sistan & Balouchestan provinces has begun, with Khoozestan and Fars expected to follow within the next couple of weeks.

2014’s crop is healthy as the season has gone smoothly in all of the growing areas in the 4 major provinces.

Prices of the new crop have not yet been fixed, but something that is definite is that lower prices are expected this year for all types of Iranian Dates. This is due to stabilization of Iranian economy. Inflation has almost stopped and statistics are showing a 1% growth in the economy within the first 6 months of this year (per Iran national calendar). Another 1% growth is expected within the next 6 months.

A sanction on shipping lines has stopped for the last few months and some shipping lines have already started direct services from Bandar Abbas to world destinations. Other shipping lines are also re-establishing their agents in Iran and difficulties regarding shipment issues will be eliminated in the new season.
