Norway: Large increase raspberry sales

This summer, the Norwegian retailer NorgesGruppens has sold 60% more Norwegian raspberries than last year. Interest in Norwegian raspberries is growing, and the availability of berries in stores is also greater than last year. Additionally, berries have become more accessible than they were a few years ago. For example, SPAR stores have sold 612,000 containers of raspberries this year, compared to the 400,000 of 2013.

The Norwegian raspberry production in a good year approaches 1,000 tonnes; fruit and vegetable sales are growing, a trend which is expected to last, and overall sales of fresh berries are on track to increase by 20% this year.

"Raspberries are in the top ten list of the most antioxidant-rich foods we have; they are a good source of vitamin C and dietary fibre," says Aina Marie Lien, head of health at NorgesGruppes.
