Ukraine’s pear harvest the greatest in 10 years

This season, Ukraine expects the greatest pear harvest in 10 years, as predicted by international experts. Ukrainian growers are expected to harvest over 178,000 tonnes of pears, which is 3% more than in 2013, when the total production reached 175,000 tonnes.

The main reason for this high yield is the introduction of new intensive orchards, experts said. However, currently the cost of pears on the Ukrainian market is 10% higher than in the same period of 2013. Pears are sold at prices ranging from 5 to 9 USD per kilo depending, on the variety and quality.
