The Lemon and Grapefruit Interprofessional Association (AILIMPO), concerned about the growing interest of its associates in converting their plantations to organic agriculture, and realising how much uncertainty there is when it comes to the use of agrochemicals, has developed a basic manual aimed at making information accessible regarding topics such as which active ingredients to use during the production stage. It is intended to provide the best guarantees to organic lemon producers, marketers, clients and consumers in Spain.
For its preparation, there has been a careful selection of all phytosanitary products registered by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment as suitable for the control of pests and diseases in lemon crops; this data have then been contrasted with the list of active substances permitted in organic agriculture according to Regulation (EC) No. 834/2007 of 28 June 2007 and subsequent amendments, incorporating all registered trade names.
The manual provides updated and essential information to combat pests and diseases affecting this crop, with concrete details regarding formulations, application rates, terms of safety, the EU MRLs, registers and trade names (with links to their MAGRAMA record), as well as data about the product's owner.
AILIMPO trusts that this will become a useful new tool that will help increase efficiency and streamline work with maximum guarantees, keeping the sector informed about current legislation.
It will, in any case, be a "live" document that will be continuously updated to adapt to any legal changes. AILIMPO will periodically update it and post it on the website www.ailimpo.com, describing any relevant news and updates.
