Spain: First Piel de Sapo melons from Senegal to arrive this week

Procomel, a Murcian company known for its brand El Abuelo de los Melones (The Grandfather of Melons), and which has owned plantations in Senegal for several years, is expecting its first Piel de Sapo melons to start arriving in Spain this weekend, ready to enter the market in early March.

Prospects for the Senegalese melon campaign this year are better than ever. "We are harvesting the best quality melons in the past ten years," assured Juan Peñalver, director of Procomel.

This quality is the result of "the exceptional handling techniques in our Senegalese plantations, which will allow us to market an outstanding product," says Peñalver.
