The CRA-FRF of Folì – Consiglio per la Ricerca e la Sperimentazione in Agricoltura – Unità di Ricerca per la Frutticoltura, a public research Institution located in Magliano, Via la Canapona 1 bis (FC), intends to estimate the interest of Nursery Farms having a legal head office in the European Union (EU) countries in acquiring a “non-exclusive licence” agreement for the commercial exploitation of the strawberry variety “JONICA” within the territory of EU countries, Italy included.

This public call is not intended to be neither a public offer nor a solicit to the investment, but only market research. As a consequence, it does not commit the Company to either supply information on the result of the offers or to start the negotiation.Premises
- The strawberry variety “JONICA” was bred in the frame of the PIR Project “Costituzione di nuovi genotipi di fragola per il Metapontino” co-financed by CRA-FRF (Technical-scientific coordinating body of the Project) and by Soc. Piraccini Secondo of Cesena.
- CRA-FRF and Piraccini Secondo srl are co-owners of the property rights deriving from the exploitation of the strawberry variety “JONICA” and CRA-FRF was appointed to manage the diffusion of the strawberry variety “JONICA” worldwide, as established by the Convention formalised by the Parties.
- CRA and Piraccini Secondo srl are co-owners of the Community Plants Variety Rights for the strawberry variety “JONICA”; the application form was made on the 04/11/2013 at the Community Plant Variety Office of Angers (Application n. 2013/2784).
- The breeders of the strawberry variety “JONICA”, all working at CRA-FRF, are: Walther Faedi, Gianluca Baruzzi, Pierluigi Lucchi and Paolo Sbrighi.
- CRA-FRF is granting to Soc. Piraccini Secondo a non-exclusive licence agreement for the cultivation and marketing of the fruits of the strawberry variety “JONICA” which can be cultivated exclusively by its associated growers, only in order to obtain fruits intended for marketing.
- The variety “JONICA” was included in the National Certification Process of the Strawberry Plants (code: FAN 0080) and it is present at the Centre of Conservation for the Pre-propagation (CCP) of CRA-FRF.
All interested nursery Companies to answer to this call with an Expression of Interest in acquiring a non-exclusive licence for the propagation and marketing of the plant material of the strawberry variety “JONICA” within the EU countries. This expression of interest shall contain the following documentation:
- Personal details of the tenderer: it is necessary to indicate the company name, the legal head office, the tax code, VAT number and date, the details of the representative, the email address or certified mail or both;
- A short report stating:
- the attested experience in the strawberry nursery activity;
- the main commercial activities in Italy and/or abroad, including also the relative amounts of strawberry plants yearly marketed;
- the motivations for being interested in acquiring a licence for the propagation and marketing of JONICA plants in the EU;
- the development and diffusion actions intended to be carried out for JONICA including the promotional and control ones, and any other relevant information which could be showing the type of organization and the willingness to market the plants of this variety;
- CRA-FRF reserves the right to consider as not valid the offers not respecting the above-mentioned conditions. In order to fully satisfy the market requests, CRA-FRF reserves the right to start further public calls tending to assure an optimal diffusion of the strawberry variety “JONICA”.
- CRA-FRF reserves also the right not to take into consideration the applications made by Organizations that in the past proved to be defaulting in the respect of the contractual regulations of the licence agreements made with CRA-FRF and, particularly, if they are not up to date with the already invoiced payments.
- On the basis of the applications made by the due date, CRA-FRF will evaluate the applications in order to identify the licensees presenting all the requisites of technical and commercial reliability and grant them a licence agreement with the relative terms and conditions.
- CRA-FRF reserves the right to start direct negotiations with the single nursery farm if the granting offer made through the present expression of interest shows to be unattainable.
