First own production grapes in Môrester Farm

Univeg Belgium supports social project in South Africa

UNIVEG Belgium will receive the first grapes of the season from their own UNIVEG 'Môrester Farm' in the Bergrivier region, Western Cape, South Africa. With the arrival of the grapes from own production UNIVEG Belgium is emphasising the support of the Columba Leadership Academy. The punnets of grapes carry a label which illustrates UNIVEG's engagement. The Columba project is a social project in South Africa that aims to improve the self esteem of children. The programme's ultimate goal is to inspire the youth and motivate them to realise positive social changes for themselves, their school and their community. UNIVEG's support goes to the new Steynville School in Piketberg.

By sponsoring the Columba leadership Academy UNIVEG Belgium is showing its social engagement to the local community in the South, along with UNIVEG South Africa. Testimonials to this great project can be found at www.columba.org.za. The 'Môrester Farm' can be found in Piketberg, Western Cape. The first arrivals of the white seedless grapes are of the variety 'Prime' and of excellent quality. The packaging and shipping of white seedless 'Sugraone' will also be started in this production area.

Over the next week the harvest of 'Thompson Seedless' grapes will also be started. The first red seedless grapes of the variety "Flame" have not yet been shipped: due to bad weather conditions the high quality demands were not met. The 'Ralli' and 'Crimson' varieties will follow later. Newer varieties on the farm are the blue seedless 'Midnight Beauty' and 'Sable'. The traditional blue varieties with seeds 'Dan Ben Hannah', 'Alphonse Lavallée' and 'La Rochelle' and the red 'Red Globe' will also be exported.
