Pineapple market disrupted for weeks

Fruit marketing is currently difficult across the board, one particular example is in the pineapple market. "The first six months sales of pineapple were super, until August there were good margins, but since week 35/36 there has been a change which has gone on for weeks," explained an importer. "There are usually fewer sales in October, but this time it's a month earlier."

Accordingly the importer is not bringing in large volumes of pineapple but there are, according to him, parties still importing and not considering what is going on, leaving lots of old stock on the market. "All in all we have a difficult period where supply and demand are out of sync. Market supply has to come into balance before we can think of a revival."
