Canadian frost could boost Maine blueberry demand
The Ellsworth American reported David Yarborough, a blueberry specialist with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, said the Canadian frost reduced Quebec's blueberry harvest this summer by nearly half. The harvest in the Canadian Maritime provinces, however, was average or above.
Still, Yarborough told the paper that lighter harvest in Quebec could fuel higher demand for Maine blueberries, as Maine and Eastern Canada are the only commercial growers of the wild fruit.
