A climate monitoring system will help in the prediction of disease in apple orchards in Santa Catarina, Parana and Rio Grande do Sul. They are small stations that will monitor the volume of rainfall, temperature and relative humidity as well as the leaves' moisture.
The data will be sent via text messages every hour by the Information Centre for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Resources of Santa Catarina (Ciram) to the State Agricultural Research Company (Epagri) in Florianópolis (Brazil) where they will be processed and real-time information will be made available to users.
The system developed by Epagri / Ciram, which currently works for tomatoes, allows each new weather station installed to automatically be included in the notifications and alerts that users access. Apple growers will have access to hourly weather data, the start and end of leaf wetness, a prediction of the appearance of spots, among other information on the Epagri/Ciram site.
