Peach prices start growing in Ukraine
Last week growers' prices of peaches varied between UAH 3-10/kg (EUR 0.28-0.94/kg). Now farmers are ready to ship produce at no lower than UAH 6-10/kg (EUR 0.56-0.94/kg).
Despite higher prices, the demand for peaches is stable, according to growers. However, farmers still are not able to raise prices above those levels due to availability of Moldovan produce in the Ukrainian market, which is offered at UAH 8-10/kg (EUR 0.75-0.94/kg).
Due to higher production, prices of Ukrainian peaches are now a third lower compared with early August 2012, when produce was shipped at UAH 10-15/kg (EUR 0.94-1.41/kg).
The current season has also started relatively earlier: first peaches were harvested in late June; and farmers plan to finish the peach season in 2-3 weeks.
