The turnover achieved with organic foodstuff continually increases and at the moment amounts to more than 7 billion Euro in Germany. With this, the demand for regionally grown and processed products also increases. Organic is currently a fashion fad, but also a stable growth market, which needs organic products from the region. "Companies wanting to change to organic agriculture should get pushed a little. The politicians should prepare reliable conditions and the correct course" Peter Warlich, organic grower from Apenburg in Saxony-Anhalt and committee member of the organic association Naturland, says.
"Regional organic cultivation takes care of the culture landscape and organic diversity and creates employment in rural areas. Therefore this is with priority to be supported," Warlich stresses. "The organic market in Germany is growing, but the local production is, to a large part, insufficient. More and more organic products are imported from abroad, although they could also grow in our fields. Mature consumers, making a difference when buying, growers who dare change to organic cultivation and a solid support from the politicians can together expand the organic agriculture permanently," according to Warlich.
