Residues found in potatoes, peppers and chilli peppers

Health authorities in Luxembourg have rejected potatoes from Holland after the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) detected pesticide residues in them, reported Hortoinfo.

The potatoes exceeded the maximum residue limits (MRL) for the substance Fluazinam, set at 0.05 mg / kg, after being analysed the results were of 0.65 mg / kg - ppm of the substance.

The potatoes, as was indicated by authorities from Luxembourg, were returned to the consignee.

Besides Luxembourg, the potatoes have been distributed in Denmark, Finland, Germany and Switzerland, where they are still being marketed.

Fluazinam is a broad-spectrum fungicide, with preventive action, which is used for the control of downy mildew of potato.

Sweet peppers

Peppers from the Dominican Republic with residues and reported by Belgium were destroyed before arriving to the supermarkets. Analysis results showed 0.23 mg/kg of lambda-cyhalothrim.

Chilli peppers

Chilli peppers from India were detained at the border by Finnish authorities since the corresponding analysis detected residue of methomyl in 0.069 mg/kg.
