The Attorney General's Office (PGR) reported that about 80 kilograms of cocaine were being transported in two trucks loaded with mangoes, which were destined for the city of Nogales, Sonora (Mexico).
In a statement, the state delegation of the PGR reported that the operation to seize the drugs was coordinated with the Ministry of Security and Civil Protection (SSPC), after an anonymous tip.
The four crew members were turned over to the Federal Public Ministry assigned to the Regional Headquarters in the state, located in Tapachula.
The federal prosecutor opened a preliminary investigation against detainees, all from Culiacan, Sinaloa, for committing a crime against public health by transporting narcotics.
Ministerial Federal Police officers and SSPC elements were deployed to the 270 + 700 kilometre location of the road Tapachula-Huixtla, Tuzantán junction, in response to an anonymous tip alerting them about two trucks loaded with mangoes carrying cocaine.
Whilst checking the two trucks, which had cooling systems, officers located and secured 40 packages in both trucks, wrapped with clear tape containing almost a kilogram of cocaine; totalling approximately 80 kilograms.
The delegation of the PGR revealed that the Federal Prosecutor is advancing in the preliminary investigation and will determine the legal status of the four individuals in the period stipulated by the law.
