Sales of top fruit are still going well at good prices. "The demand for Conference is rather good with Poland the largest buyer. In addition there is a good demand for Elstar apples, especially from the local market. Stocks of Elstar are limited. Also the Boskoop stock is close to the end with a good price as a result. Only when selling Jonagold we have a problem with Poland, which has enough stock itself," the topfruit trader Paul Peters from Ingen says.
"The taste and quality of the Conference pears are good and they go to quite a number of countries," the trader continues. "Sales to Russia are still quiet, but I expect that there will be more demand from there for Conference. For the big sizes (70+) Poland pays well. The sizes 55-65 mainly go to Scandinavia and Spain is in the market for sizes 65/75."
Paul expects that prices will remain stable. "Stocks are not so big that one becomes nervous about prices decreasing. There is demand for pears from everywhere, only a good price is still a 'bottleneck' in certain areas. With Conference pears the price for the 60's and larger assortment is between 1.08 and 1.25 Euro. The price for the 55's is about one Euro. The price of the 50-assortment is around 80 cents, the 45's around 60 cents. "Also the price for the processing industry remains at a nice level. All in all we are very satisfied with the sales.
