Spain: Elche's pomegranate production up 10% due to good weather

Production volumes of the latest Mollar pomegranate campaign in Elche have reached 44,000 tones, which is 10% more than last year.

The president of the Association of Producers and Traders of Pomegranates from Elche, Francisco Oliva, confirmed that the current campaign is the best in years, in terms of production volumes and fruit quality.

Among the reasons for the fruit's success, according to Oliva, are the good weather conditions and the increase in consumption of Mollar pomegranates in Spain.

In this sense, he pointed out that about 40% of the production has been distributed in the Spanish market, which is 10 to 15% more than in previous campaigns.

"Elche's Mollar pomegranates are increasingly better known and consumed," assured the president of the Association.

As for overseas markets, the remaining 60% of the production is exported to countries like Germany, France, the UK and Russia, as well as emerging markets such as Nigeria and Malaysia.
