Canada: Mucci Farms shows sustainable business practices

Mucci Farms was recently honoured to host between 25 and 30 delegates from the Federation of Municipalities of Canada’s (FMC) Sustainable Communities Conference. The Sustainable Communities Conference was held in Windsor from Feb 13th through 15th and drew delegates from Newfoundland to Iqaluit. The focus of the pre-arranged conference tours was sustainable business practices within the community. Four tours were arranged to showcase businesses within the County that have demonstrated leadership in innovative and sustainable business practices, one of which was to Remasco and the Mucci Group.

The conference delegates were taken through three separate Mucci businesses, touring Remasco, Mucci Farms and Mucci Pac each showing different but equally impressive sustainability initiatives. Remasco has designed and constructed its own gasification technology and site wide co-generation strategy for the Mucci Group. Mucci Farms’ latest 30 acre greenhouse expansion incorporates double-thermal curtain technology that reduces greenhouse heating energy consumption by more than 30%.

The recently renovated Mucci Group offices and new warehouse make extensive use of super high efficiency LED and high efficiency fluorescent lighting. Without exception, each of the Mucci Group projects not only provides significant environmental benefits but made sound financial sense. At the end of the tour, the delegates were delighted to be treated to tasty, healthy appetizers made from garnished, fresh, Mucci produce. Each delegate got back on the bus carrying a goody bag of nutritious, succulent cutecumbersTM and bellasweetsTM.
