Peru: Torre Blanca handling grapes for the first time

Torre Blanca are a Peruvian company, based in Hural-Lima. They were founded in 2007 and have handled avocados, asparagus, mangoes and citrus since then. This year, however, has seen them take on a new product - grapes.

Gianfranco Guerrinin Crispo from Torre Blanca has been talking about the company's new venture.

"The grapes, which are the Red Globe variety, are being grown in Nepena Valley in the North of the country. We started with this new product during the last week of October and this is the first year we have handled table grapes."

Gianfranco went on to explain that the grapes are to be exported to several markets.

"They will be exported to Europe - mainly to Germany - and also to Asia, mostly to Indonesia and China."

The grapes are being processed by Torre Blanca on behalf of European company, Kolla, who have offices in Switzerland, Germany and Spain.

"This year the quality of the grapes is good. Peruvian volumes are growing year by year, this year the expectations are for around 8,000 containers.

Gianfrance says the company expects to handle a total of 20 containers this season, 45,600 8.2kg boxes.
