Research by Proexport shows that Colombian fruit has a lot of potential on EU markets. According to María Claudia Lacouture, chairman of Proexport “Europe is a market with 500 million inhabitants, contributing 20% to the world’s economy. It has huge potential for our trade.”
Analysis done by Proexport shows that fresh and processed fruit has enormous chances in countries like Slovenia, Estonia, Finland and the Netherlands.
Fresh flowers, according to data, are also an interesting option: Germany, Slovenia, Spain, Romania, Poland, Portugal Ireland and Finland are all interested in the product. Even linen is a possible venue, as Belgium, Spain and Germany all take linen from South American countries.
Colombian distributors wanting to take a chance should take into consideration the fact that the EU has a ton of regulations concerning food safety, pesticides (Maximum Residue Levels), environment and Fair Trade.
