Brazil: Hot market for Fuji apples
Fuji apples, originally from Aomori, in north Japan, are one of Brazil's favourites. The variety arrived to Brazil in the 1980's and is currently a growing market with good prices and a quality that satisfies customers, informed Canal Rural.
Most of the fruit's national production takes place in São Joaquim, Santa Catarina, Brazil, from where it is distributed to other states and also to other Latin American countries. Nowadays, it is a hot market with rising prices. In São Paulo, for instance, it is possible to buy a box for R$ 45.00.
Besides the price and quality, which are an incentive for the fruit's consumption, health benefits also attract consumers. Fuji apples contain vitamins A, B and C, as well as calcium and iron.
There is a great diversity of products in the market elaborated with this apple variety, such as homemade and factory-produced juice, apple jam, jelly and pies, which cater to all tastes and keep demand for the fruit high.
