"Spain: Huelva increases offer with "zero residue" strawberry"

The strawberry sector in Huelva, that concentrates 94% of the national production, keeps on taking steps towards quality, sustainability and is now widening its offer with the "zero residue" strawberry. Cultivated using biologic pest control, it will start being commercialized in the next campaign. This is according to Alberto Garrocho, president of the Federation of Producers and Exporters of Strawberry from Huelva (Freshuelva). He also pointed to the fact that the company is presently working on this new brand to answer to the on-growing demands of consumers for products treated with chemicals, like the "Fresón de Palos", from Palos de la Frontera (Huelva).

He pointed out that this company concentrates about 45% of the strawberry production with biological pest control, with more than 150 hectares, an area that doubled in the last year.

Results are "so positive" that for the next campaign, this company will widen its portfolio of products, adding the "zero residues" strawberry to the different varieties already in offer.
