First Dutch, Belgian and Hungarian cherries on the way

No French cherries because of weather conditions

French cherries have barely been seen in the Netherlands. "Next year again," an importer says. "During setting in February the weather was very bad and as a result the trees were damaged. Also the early varieties received a lot of rain and when the cherries were ripe even more rain fell, which resulted in splitting."

At the moment Spanish cherries are plentiful. According to importers especially Spanish varieties have a better quality because of new varieties. Next week the first cherries from Hungary are expected in the Netherlands. In Italy the cherry season of Verona has ended in the meantime. Also Apulia has no more cherries.

The early varieties in Belgium and the Netherlands will be ready within two weeks, but these cherries as well are rather damaged because of the weather conditions. The Turkish cherries cost 3/4 Euro/kg. at the moment. When the Dutch cherries come onto the market even higher prices are expected.
