US: Peanut shortage pushes prices up

US peanut growers are expecting to produce 1.8 million tons this year - a drop of 13% from last year. The shortage is being blamed on the weather.

"We have had droughts for two years in a row, so last year's crop was indeed a smaller crop than we've had in the recent past," said National Peanut Board president Raffaela Marie.

There are reports of high price increases for peanut related products - peanut butter, for example, is up as much as 40%.
