Pear pushes export fruit and vegetables
According to participating organisations the Conference season in Germany was successfully ended. With that it appears that they have the right export figures on their side. Whilst the export of fruit and vegetables to Germany strongly decreased in the first quarter, the export of pears just showed an increasing tendency, as announced by the Productschap Tuinbouw. The export is mainly Conference, although also Beurré Alexander Lucas finds its way to our eastern neighbours.
Compared to last year Conference profited from the strongly increased export of fruit and vegetables to Russia in the first quarter. Pears are emphatically mentioned as one of the most important products. Apples were exported less to Russia. Sweden imported more apples. The export of pears to Poland increased. Export to the United Kingdom was smaller in the first quarter than in 2011.
Earlier this year GroentenFruit Bureau in cooperation with NFO Fruit held a spring offensive for the Dutch Conference. With the title ‘Ich esse meine Conference Birne – knackig frisch oder mild-süβ‘ German retailers and the retail trade press were actively informed about the advantages of the Dutch Conference pears. After the first activities on the German fairs Grüne Woche and Fruit Logistica in Berlin, in April the Conference received a lot of attention in the trade magazine Fruchthandel Magazine and at the trade website Fruchtportal.de.
The activities are supported on the website: www.obstundgemuese.nl/conferencebirne/ with a renewed Veggipedia. Also the German retail trade press and the German supermarket buyers, sellers and departmental managers were in a playful manner made aware of the Dutch conference pear.
