Canada: Global Fruit announces UniTec Cherry

It’s that time of year! As the weather is beginning to warm up, the blossoms are in full swing. By importing bees, Global Fruit's growers ensure that the trees are pollinated evenly and quickly to ensure a great fruit set. There has been no winter damage thanks to the warm and mild winter. Added with an exceptional spring there are expectations of an excellent crop this season. With weather permitting this far and the degree days being right on, the season should begin around July 6th in the South Okanagan and will finish harvesting in Creston canyon region well into September. With new coolers and containers Global Fruit are excited to be able extend their season until the end of September this year.

Before the season ends UniTec's New Defect Sorter, Cherry_Vision is to be installed in June.

Two years ago Sandher Fruit Packers installed the first Unitec Optical Sorting Line in North America. For this coming season Global Fruit and Sandher Fruit Packers are pleased to announce that again for the first time in North America, Cherry_Vision, UniTec's Optical Defect Sorter will be installed this June.

Cherry_Vision is the new non-destructive system with high capacity to detect the external quality of cherries, that based on a system of cameras and software specifically developed by UNITEC can sort cherries according to skin defects and shape. The Optical Defect Sorter will remove all imperfections that are easily missed by manual sorters and help us to achieve our goal of a perfect pack every time.
