US (CA): Tulare County crop report week ending April 14th

Field crops:
Harvested fields are being prepared for spring planting of beans. Some fields already have furrows completed, but the planting of seed has not begun yet.

Deciduous tree fruits, nuts and grapes:
Grapes, nut trees, pomegranates and kiwis are pushing new green growth. Cherry bloom is in its final stages. However, some cherry trees still have late bloom. Vineyards and stone-fruit groves are now requiring irrigation. Pistachios and almonds are continuing to be exported. Weed-control practices are continuing to be very active. Pre-emergent herbicides are being applied. Fungicides continue to be applied to stone-fruit orchards and vineyards.

Citrus, avocados and olives:
The navel orange export is staying steady, with exports to Korea, Japan and China. Citrus continues to be checked for freeze damage. Valencia orange harvest has started in most districts and maturity tests are being conducted. Orange trees and avocado trees in early locations are in full bloom. Murcott tangerine harvest is beginning to wind down. Apiaries are being moved into citrus-producing areas in preparation for the main bloom period.

Vegetables, melons and berries:
Early blueberries are being picked for sampling. Tomatoes, peppers and squash are being planted without hot caps. Roadside strawberry stands have begun light sales.
