AU: Apple and pear growers calling for government support

Apple and pear growers are calling on the government to help curb job losses in their industry. Apple and Pear Australia says recent government changes, making the import of fruits into the country easier, could see a reduction in the number of domestic producers.

They are asking for a state investment of $21.9 million over four years. Otherwise, they say, up to 2,500 jobs could be lost.They say the money will help growers become more sustainable and globally competitive.
