Italy will host the 8th international symposium on table grapes

Italy will host the 8th edition of the International Table Grape Symposium, the main periodic scientific meeting of this horticultural sector, that will take place in Apulia and Sicily from 1st to 7th October 2017.

In Apulia, from 1st to 5th October, a program of scientific sessions will be held at the University of Foggia, followed by technical tours to significant structures of the most important table grape districts of the region. Finally, a round table focused on logistics and markets will be held in Bari.

In Sicily, on 6th and 7th October, the closing scientific sessions will take place at the University of Palermo; moreover, technical visits to the main table grape producing areas of that region will be devoted to interesting innovations in table grape production.

A Global Project
Italy has been chosen to host the 8th ITGS not only because it is one of the word's leading countries for fresh grape production, but also thanks to its qualified contribution to the progress in this field. It is not accidental that the concept of the Table Grape Symposium was born in Italy with the first meeting held, in 1991, in Apulia and Sicily. Further, in compliance with the international relevance achieved by this congress, the community composed by scientists and professionals active in the table grape industry from around the word meet, every 3-4 years, in one of the main countries of this sector.

The Topics
The 8th International Table Grape Symposium will be an opportunity to discuss the most current research on table grapes and to share knowledge with scientists, technicians and producers interested to technological innovation.

The attention will focus mainly on the following topics, looking at a perspective of sustainability, quality and novelty: Production, Economics and Market Environment, Biology and Physiology Standard and Advanced Growing Techniques Postharvest Technologies and Processing Genetic Resources & Propagation Techniques Pest and Disease Control.

The Committees and Conveners
The 8th ITGS has been promoted by the professors of Viticulture of the Universities of Foggia, Palermo and Turin, and by the consulting companies Agriproject Group and Graper. Nevertheless, the Organizing Committee involves also experts of other groups and Institutions. The Scientific Committee is composed by researchers from Australia, California, South Africa, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, China, Iran, Turkey, Spain, Portugal, and Italy.

The Conveners are prof. Laura de Palma (University of Foggia), prof. Rosario Di Lorenzo (University of Palermo) and prof. Vittorino Novello (University of Turin). The Symposium has attracted the interest of Italian the producers and their association APEO (Association of Producers and Exporters of Horticultural products). Moreover, the organization will take advantage of the expertise of Agrifood Consulting, for the Event Management, and of Soluzioni Omnia Media, as Organizing Secretary.

Partners and Patronages
The 8th ITGS will be held under the patronage of Regione Puglia, Società di Ortoflorofrutticoltura Italiana, Accademia Italiana della Vite e del Vino; moreover it has asked the patronage of the Italian Ministry of Agriculture and of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV).

The official language will be English (Italian translation will be provided to stimulate the participation of Italian technicians). The provisional program, the 1st and 2nd Circulars, the deadlines and links for participant registration and for abstract submission are available at the web site www.8itgs2017.it.
