Two semi-trucks hauling apples crash into Columbia River in space of three days

Just three days after a semi-truck hauling apples plunged into the Columbia River near Shawana, a second truck full of apples crashed into the river Thursday near East Wenatchee.

Kyle R. Stanton, a 40-year-old Wenatchee man, was driving a semi-truck and trailer west on state Route 2. The truck reportedly went off the road to the right, through the guardrail and into the Columbia River, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The truck landed upright and soon sank into the river leaving thousands of apples floating to the surface and flowing down the river. The driver was not injured in the accident but was cited for driving with wheels off the road.
