US Apple holdings up from 2016

Compared to their holdings logged on January 1, 2016 the holdings this year are up totaling 103.2 million bushels, which is a 14% increase. Inventories of 90.5 million bushels and 11 percent more than the five-year average for that date of 93.3 million bushels were also reported, according to the U.S. Apple Association.

Total processing holdings were up 3 percent more than 2016 and 8 percent more than the five-year average for that date.

The total number of apples in storage was 143.3 million bushels, 11 percent more than last January’s total of 129.7 million bushels. The report also showed how unfavorable weather affected the storage in various states in the Southeast who saw declines as compared to Michigan who reported an inventories rise of 15%.
