The Conserveria Africana Ghana Limited (CAL) has announced their decision to inject 100 million cedis into their tomato paste production. The announcement was made at the launch of the company’s factory which up until now has specialised in importing tomato paste.
President of the CAL, Rajib Chattopadhyay, says that his aim is to produce about 25,000 tons of tomato paste, enough to fulfil 25-29% of the national demand (which reaches between 70,000 to 100,000 tons). The tomato paste market has a €90 million annual value, and Rajib Chattopadhyay says that eventually the hope to export their production to the sub-region.
Ghana’s President, John Mahama Dramani commended the company’s ambitions and has called on the public to consume local produce.
