The Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region in Northwest China is actively pursuing enhanced collaboration with Guangdong to boost its forestry and fruit industry. Mardan Murgat, vice-chairman of the Xinjiang regional government, emphasized Xinjiang's status as a crucial hub for high-quality agricultural products on both domestic and international fronts.
At the opening ceremony of the Third China Xinjiang Special Forestry and Fruit Products Expo in Guangzhou, Mardan expressed the potential for mutually beneficial collaboration, with Xinjiang and Guangdong leveraging their complementary advantages.
Mardan outlined Xinjiang's commitment to implementing a strategy aimed at expanding its agricultural product market, emphasizing the importance of a "going out" strategy to promote the sale of the region's distinctive forest and fruit products on a broader scale. He encouraged business participants to seize the opportunity presented by the expo to explore Xinjiang's offerings and identify potential business prospects.
Highlighting Xinjiang's achievements in agriculture, Mardan noted that the region boasts a total area of 1.4 million hectares dedicated to forest and fruit planting, projecting a fruit yield exceeding 13.6 million metric tons for the current year. Xinjiang consistently leads in the production of various fruits, including red dates, grapes, apricots, fragrant pears, and plums. Additionally, the region ranks high in the production of walnuts, apples, and goji berries.
Over 800 fruits and agricultural products from Xinjiang were showcased at the expo, creating a platform for collaboration. During the event, 18 companies from various regions in Xinjiang signed cooperative agreements and sales contracts exceeding 947 million yuan ($135.3 million) with counterparts from outside the region.
