Peru is expected to export 515,000 tons of Hass avocado this season

The president of the Association of Hass Avocado Producers of Peru (ProHass), Juan Carlos Paredes Rosales, said Peru would export 515,000 tons of Hass avocado this year, i.e. 6.6% more than in 2021.

Paredes Rosales highlighted that Europe is the main market for Peru's Hass avocado, accounting for 70% of the country's exports. He also said they expected a substantial increase in the volumes dispatched to the United States.

"The US market has little Mexican avocado and little Californian avocado, so we expect Peruvian Hass avocado shipments to that country to grow by 10% to 25%."

He also said they expected the volume exported to the Japanese market, which is very stable, to grow by nearly 30%.

It's worth noting that by week 17 (April 24) the country had already exported 4,578 containers, i.e. 20% of the total projected for this campaign.

Production costs increase while the fruit's price falls
The increase in the price of fertilizers is having an impact on this season's production. The president of Prohass said that, in coastal agriculture -which is technical-, fertilizers accounted for 7% to 70% of the costs in the field and that, if producers were able to find fertilizers, their price had increased by nearly 50%. At the same time, he said, in the first quarter of the year, Hass avocado prices in international markets decreased by approximately 30% over the same period of 2021.
