In Peru, the blueberry production cycle is 9 months; in Ceará, in northeast Brazil, it can reach 6. To reach Europe, the Peruvian product takes three weeks; in Ceará, only takes just one.
Tomorrow, the Executive Secretary of Agribusiness of the Secretariat for Economic Development and Labor (Sedet) of the Government of Ceará, agronomist Sílvio Carlos Ribeiro, will return to Fortaleza. In his baggage, he has already included the good news that at least two of the largest Peruvian companies that produce blueberries and Hass-type avocados have an effective interest in investing in the production of these fruits in Chapada da Ibiapaba. A Dutch investment fund, whose executives have already been to the Ibiapaba region, also has the same interest.
Sílvio Carlos Ribeiro has stated that Peruvians “have already realized that, in order to send fruit from Ecuador to Europe, they need up to 3 weeks”. Ribeiro added: “In Ceará we have, and the Peruvians know it, the advantage of being just a week, by ship, from the East Coast of the United States and of the main ports in Europe. In addition, we can produce blueberries in less time than in Peru.”
