Benlai.com is an online retail platform. They were the exclusive retailer who introduced the organic Zespri New Zealand Sun Gold kiwi fruit to the Chinese market. This organic kiwi fruit received great feedback from Chinese consumers and drew attention to Benlai.com. In 2021 the e-commerce platform further improved their strategic cooperation with Zespri when they introduced soft, ready-to-eat green New Zealand kiwi fruit to the Chinese market.
China now accounts for 25% of Zespri's global services. Jiang Shijie, the CEO of Zespri Group China, recently shared insight in the Chinese market for Zespri kiwi fruit. Jiang Shijie explained that out of every four kiwi fruit sold by Zespri, one of them is eaten by a Chinese consumer. This is an indication of the sheer size of the Chinese market, but it also shows that Chinese consumers have a growing interest in high-quality fruit.
Zespri recently innovated their distribution system in China. According to Jiang Shijie, Zespri carried out investigations in relevant areas that already reflect development plans for the next 10 years. Zespri hopes to develop together with suppliers who operate on the basis of ecological principles.
Benlai.com and Zespri officially began another year of strategic cooperation in March, 2021. The two companies have developed a close and friendly working relationship over the years. Zespri first went into business with Benlai.com in 2015, and their relationship has been stable since then.
