“This February saw the Philippines gaining access for its frozen fruits into China. This July, we received our first batch of frozen pineapple sticks from this country,” Mr. Zhong of GoGo Qingdao Limited Shanghai commented.
“As this is the first year we have imported this product, and also as the sales season started a bit later, the volume we brought to the market is not substantial. Our sales channel this year is mainly convenience stores. Many suppliers supply directly to McDonald’s, which is also a direction for us in the future,” Mr. Zhong said.
“This product is made from pineapples with a higher level of ripeness and frozen at -20 °C using the patented technology from Nice Fruit in Spain after the inedible skin is peeled.
Compared with fresh pineapples, this product has advantages in three aspects. First of all, it is highly convenient and can be consumed immediately. Secondly, it has a shelf life of up to three years without using any preservatives. In addition, fruit with the ripeness level of 90% can be processed within 24 hours after being harvested, to ensure the sweetest taste, the most well-preserved nutrients, and the best texture,” Mr. Zhong said.
“We import S&W fresh pineapples from the Philippines all year round. Now, they are available to consumers in nearly all first and second-tier cities in China. We also hope to bring frozen pineapple sticks from the Philippines to China to allow more consumers to taste its unique flavor,” Mr. Zhong said.
