Turkish citrus export season starts

Turkish National Citrus Council's chairman Kemal Kacmaz announced that producers had started to harvest the early variety of Meyer lemons and that the exports start as of September 2.

The statement issued by Kacmaz stated that citrus is the most important sub group of the fresh fruits and vegetables sector in Turkey. In the statement, Kacmaz announced that 2019-2020 exports season starts soon and that they are ready for the new season.

Then he continued: "Following our visits to lemon gardens in Adana and Mersin, our citrus harvest and export commission concluded that early variety of Meyer lemons are already ripe and ready to be collected. August 29 is set as the date for the harvest and on September 2 exports begin. Due to weather conditions, Meyer lemons, like every other fruit, ripened later than usual this season compared to last."

Reminding us that harsh winter conditions last year affected citrus producers and exporters, Kacmaz wished to have a smooth season this year without any damage on products.
